Hello boys and girls,
Welcome to the computer lab! You have a few tasks to complete today.
Kim has only seen you working on our blog once, so I'm looking forward to hearing about you impressing her today!
It is our turn in just over two weeks to lead the Rock of Ages 9-12 classes in a song and we haven't yet chosen one! We are presenting on Thursday, April 4th and need to have our song ready well in advance.
We have to select a song by a Canadian artist. Think about the songs we've already chosen and try to suggest something that's a little bit different. You may suggest the song you chose for the "Music with a Message" assignment or a new one.
TASK #1: Please leave a comment on this post, or if you have a blog, you may write a post on your blog and then link to it. In your comment (or post), provide the name of your song suggestion, the musician (or "artist") of the song and three juicy reasons that you think this would be a great addition to our song list. You must also link to your song (you can link to a YouTube video if you wish).
Before you publish your post, double check to make sure you've followed all the instructions, used your best spelling, and done careful, professional work.
TASK #2: Continue to refresh the page and see as your classmates comment. Read about their suggestions and if you are unfamiliar with the songs, listen to them. Write at least two responses. Remember to be kind, specific and respectful in your comments. Continue the conversation!
In total, you will write at least three comments. If each student is writing at least three comments, how many comments will we have today?
TASK #3: When you are finished adding comments on this post, you may visit Rock of Ages 9-12 and leave comments there.
Please make sure you stay on task and use your time well! I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions!
Some students have gotten really good at using blogger, so please ask one another for help as needed.
UPDATE: Great start, Digital Degus! Remember to read all instructions! If you need some more inspiration, check out Tiiu's blog. She has posted some great Canadian artists and songs.
UPDATE #2: Fiona's posted her song suggestion on her blog! Pat has posted his, too!
Welcome to the home of the Rainbow Eggheads, formerly the home of the Digital Degus. A class of grade 5/6 students and their teacher blog about their learning adventures here. We tweet as a class from @churchill209 Our teacher tweets from @misspollock

Hi Ricki,
DeleteRemember to read all the instructions above....is the Beatle's "I'm a Believer" a Canadian song?
The Beatles are British I think.
Deletesorry i forgot to see if they were canadian or not.
DeleteI think it is a great song but they are not canadian.
DeleteBut it has a great message!
Sk8ter Boi - Avril Lavigne
ReplyDelete1. It is a very lively song with a awesome beat that gets stuck in your head.
2. Avril is a French-Canadian artist with a sense for music.

Very nice pick Camden I think I heard that song before.
DeleteHi Camden,
DeleteWhat is the message of Sk8r Boi? Do you think it's a positive message for students?
I think sk8er boi is a really good idea and we should maybe do that for our class's song.
Delete-Jack
I sugest that we sing "Octopus Garden " by the beetles . I think we should sing this song because it's nice and slow ,it would be a good cool down song after a really fast ,peppy song .
ReplyDeleteIt's also a good ukulele song so we can have the ukulele club playing while we sing .
Hi Laryssa,
DeleteMake sure you read all the instructions...is the Beatle's "Octopus' Garden" a Canadian song?
That is a very good pick but i don't think the Beatles are Canadian?
DeleteThe beatles are'nt Canadian they're British.
Delete-Jack
What's the message?
DeleteI think that we should do ''heart of gold'' by Niel young
ReplyDelete1. Most of his song have a very juicy message in each one.
2.The main Idea for heart of gold is that even that your old your heart is still working.
3.This song has such a good message because I think he ye was old when he did this song and he put all his heart in the song.
Excellent suggestion and reasons, Thomas! Can you make a link to this song? The only thing I'd like you to think about is, do you think we should sing two Neil Young songs? We're already singing "Rockin' in the Free World". Let me know what you think.
DeleteOk Shauna!

-3 The song is written by a well known Canadian artist.

Tiiu's class is having a great discussion about some song ideas. We obviously don't want to take the song that they'll be presenting, but Tiiu has linked to some great Canadian artists and songs. If you're stuck, check them out. http://room310churchill.blogspot.ca/2013/03/things-that-rock_19.html

ReplyDelete!JUISY REASONS WHY I PICKED THIS SONG!
1.its a song that most of us will know when ray puts the lyrics
2.it does not have any bad words and it is not inappropriate
3.it very upbeat
Hi people ples do not pik my song because some of you
ReplyDeletedont like him ples red the lyrics
her are my resons
1this song has a good messega
2its good to try somting now
3its a good songI don't know how I got here
I knew it wouldn't be easy
But your faith in me was so clear
It didn't matter how many times I got knocked on the floor
But you knew one day I would be standing tall
Just look at me now
Cause everything starts from something
But something would be nothing
Nothing if your heart didn't dream with me
Where would I be, if you didn't believe
(Believe)
Believe...
There were days when I was just broken, you know
There were nights when I was doubting myself
But you kept my heart from falling
It didn't matter how many times I got knocked on the floor
But you knew one day I would be standing tall
Just look at us now
Cause everything starts from something
But something would be nothing
Nothing if your heart didn't dream with me
Where would I be, if you didn't believe
[Gospel]
Where would I be, if you, if you
If you didn't believe
Would I know how it feels to
Touch the sky, if you didn't believe
Believe, believe
It didn't matter how many times I got knocked on the floor
You knew one day I would be standing tall
Just look at us now
Cause everything starts from something
But something would be nothing
Nothing if your heart didn't dream with me
Cause everything starts from something
But something would be nothing
Nothing if your heart didn't dream with me
Where would I be, if you didn't believe
[Gospel]
Where would I be, if you
If you didn't believe
Would I know how it feels to
Touch the sky, if you didn't believe
Believe, believe

ReplyDeleteI chose the song Trouble by Taylor Swift but she is american so I found a Canadian group who sings it on youtube. Here is the link:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcM14Al83Ls
1. The first time I heard it it was WOW really good.
2. There is no swearing and that is good because we can't listen to those types of songs at school.
3. I think it would kind of fit in with the blog.
I think the Canadian version could sound a little more like the american version but it is still good.
From: haydie
Here is the song that I chose:
ReplyDeleteWake Up by Arcade Fire
1. It has no swear words or anything
2. it has a message about dont hide from your fears
3. it has a good beat!
hope you approve my choice!
I posted my song on my blog, fabvab2003.blogspot.ca!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like it!
