Third Annual Living Musuem

Time Travellers take a few minutes to read and get themselves focused before the big event.

 Many of you followed along with our Living Museum on Twitter again this year, so these photos will be familiar.

Some of the Time Travellers made sure to Skype with our friends in California and share what they had learned.

As always, our very own Genius Baby made an appearance to soak up some knowledge.

Reflecting on our Mystery Skype Call with Ms. Vo's Class

On Friday, we had a Mystery Skype call with a class in Dallas, Texas. They are on Twitter and we can continue to connect with them there.

We had a sneaky-peek of where they were located before our call, so, while they tried to find out our city, we worked to figure out which one of the many, many schools in Dallas they were from. 

After our call (which was their second ever Mystery Skype), we reflected on our work during the call.

Lately, we have been using "Stars and Planets" instead of "Stars and Wishes". We think about "Planning" rather than "Wishing", because that makes us more responsible, and Plan-It, rather than just sitting and wishing.

Mystery Skype

Stars:

-we were all very respectful of their different interpretations

-our questions were really well thought of

-all doing good things on computers

-we listened really well

-people were including others to share laptops

Planets:

-more people participating

-be more quiet, no shhushing needed

-we should have more questions planned out beforehand

-nobody talking unless it’s your turn

-more quiet because ipad picks up noise

-when you’re sharing, speak loudly

-stay more on task

-next time, Shauna should hook to projector once we’re connected

-follow instructions the first time

Reflecting on Your Skype Calls with Los Altos

Hi boys and girls,

  At some point today, during your day with Catherine, take 5-10 minutes to fill out this form to let me know how your call with our friends in Los Altos went: THE FORM.

UPDATE: Kaleigh let me know that many of you were having trouble with the form. When I created it, I set it up so that you had to be logged into your Cloud account to access the form. Now, I've opened it up, so you don't need to log in. This will be a lot easier when we get our Chromebooks - you'll all be logged in every day!

Looking Forward to Working with Miss Robin's Class

We have started to work with Miss Robin and her grade 5 class in Los Altos, California to share about our similar Social Studies projects.

Her students blogged about our first Skype chat. They explained about our Mystery Skype call. They were really interested in the degus. They learned about how much we love to eat Beaver Tails.

It will be great to Skype more with them in small groups and to share our ideas!

Skype with Miss Robin's Class - Big News!

We have been working with Miss Robin's class in Palo Alto, California, comparing how our lives are impacted by geography. A parent in Miss Robin's class works for Skype and thinks that what we have been doing is so interesting that we have been invited to join in a promotional video for Skype! We will be featured Skyping with Miss Robin's class on April 17th!

We were so excited about the news, that we celebrated in an "uproarious" way, by having our very own impromptu "Harlem Shake"!

Shauna's Learning - Getting Ready for Skyping in California!

Tonight, I Skyped with Miss Robin, the teacher of the students in Palo Alto, California, who we'll be Skyping with for the next week and a half. Those of you who take an idea and run with it, please DO NOT look up Palo Alto, California yet! We're going to wait and let your new friends tell you about their lives there!

So far, Miss Robin and I have collaborated on a document on the Google Drive, which was very cool, and had lots of Skype IM chats. We are ready to introduce our classes to one another and get our students working together!

Miss Robin and I are both VERY excited to get started on Wednesday! Stay tuned for more details!

Anna's Substance Use and Abuse Lesson #1

Today, we Skyped with Anna about tobacoo and alcohol. We learned a lot of new things, and we had a LOT to tell her. We also had a TON of great questions. Some that even stumped Anna, Kayren AND Shauna! As always, the Digital Degus were wonderful participators!

Sophia had an awesome idea to take these ideas and run with them! Try to think of what you'd like to research further!

Mystery Skype is when two teachers from different countries plan something for the classes and they have to figure out what country and city the other class is in. There are different jobs for the kids.
