Jackson - Fashion and Hudson

Jackson started rocking a sleeve as a hat. Room 209 fashion is always on the cutting edge!

 Hudson, Jackson's dog, came in for a visit to the classroom. As always, it was a pleasure to have a four-legged friend wandering around!

Tessa's thoughts: What are these guys doing to me? I came into this awesome class! They treated me like I was the best thing in the world and I hope I can come back soon! And I'm sure Sophia liked that too.

This is my dog, Hudson, he is a Yorkshire Terrier-Shi Tzu mix. He was very excited when he got into the classroom and when the kids came in. He was very good and he wanted to follow me and my mom everywhere, mostly me! He is going to come back into the classroom again, maybe!

George, er Rather, Mick!

This is another post that's been sitting in my "Drafts" folder for WAY too long! Back in the fall, I was driving to school and saw an adorable doggy running free, with no leash or humans, on busy Maitland. I pulled over and called to him. He immediately and tail-waggingly ran over to me and I popped him into the back of my car.

I snapped a few photos of him quickly. On the way to school, I dropped him off with my mom.

The students and I then brainstormed ways to find this dog's owners. I could tell he was well taken care of, and obviously someone would be missing him very soon.

Together, we wrote a report on the Humane Society website, sent an email and made a call (on speakerphone) to let them know we'd found this dog. We called to check in with my mom to see how he was doing. He had happily eaten some steak and my mom was calling him "George". She said she'd walk him past the school during our outdoor Gym time so we could all see him.

Amazingly, at the end of the day, as we were reading our novel, my phone rang! It was the Humane Society telling us they had found "George"'s owners. As it turns out, his real name is Mick, he's named after Mick Jagger, the lead singer of the band "The Rolling Stones", who has a HUGE tongue. As you'll see in the pictures below, so does Mick the dog!

We got the phone number for the owner, called HER on speakerphone and made arrangements for me to drop Mick off after school. After we learned that he was a family dog with four kids at home, Laurie brought him by for a quick hello.

As you'll see in the pictures below, Mick and the kids of Room 209 LOVED each other!

The story couldn't have had a happier ending. And it all worked out perfectly in the span of just one school day!

Another Wonderful Four-Legged Visitor - Oscar! - by Molly

Oscar came in and he really enjoyed it, but he doesn't like when he didn't get to see everybody when he yelped, so I took him out and then he just ran around. Oscar is my dog and he is a rescue.

The Degus are Named!

We had our Degu Naming Ceremony today as the degus took their third sand bath.

We are pleased to formally introduce...

Professor Caine Marshmallows, a.k.a "Sherwood"
and
Senor Speedy Gonzales Marshmallows a.k.a "Pie Head"!

It took a lot of discussion and democracy in action, but they're finally named!

Meet the Degus!

We got two new class pets and so far, the consensus is - they're AWESOME! Everyone in Room 209 is in love and can't wait to get their hands on Caine and little No-Name (the official naming ceremony happens next Wednesday).

The little guys are just getting used to being in our room and will need some time before they're ready to be held, but for now, they're really fun to watch in their big aquarium!

Without further ado, the degus...

On the PA Day, I watched the little buddies snuggle all day!

Lauren's mom, Paula, had a pet rat and knows all about rodents! She'll be a good resource for us!

How could you not love this little face?!

I have already watched this five times! This is the moment when the "Mystery Box" is revealed to the students of Room 209!
