Our First Field Trip: Hug a Tree - by Millie

So, we went to this place called the Wild Bird Care Centre and we played this game called "Hug a Tree" and it's where you get a partner and it's where you or your partner are blindfolded and they lead you around and take you to any tree they want. You have to feel the tree and you have to guess what type of tree it is. Lauren was my partner and she brought me WAY into the forest and I didn't know where we were and I tripped a couple of times.

Liam lost his glasses and everybody was looking for them and finally Shauna offered a reward to whoever found them and it was five dollars. So, then when everybody heard what Shauna had to say, they all went wild looking for the glasses, but Shauna said not to go wild because they could step on them!

But it turned out that Liam actually found the glasses, so he got five bucks!

Our First Field Trip: Feeding Black-Capped Chickadees - by Lauren

It was a LOOOOONG time ago....and it was cold a little bit, not that cold and the chickadees, I think they were saying, "Free food! No vending machines! Go ahead if you wish and look, let's stalk them!"

I got to feed about 127. It was kind of creepy. One was on my head. Actually, three were on my head at once! And they were playing with my hair, not something you want! And, Mel, she followed me around. The chickadees liked me better. It was weird.

Our First Field Trip: The Wild Bird Care Centre - by Daniel

A long time ago, we went to the Wild Bird Care Centre. It was really nice being out in nature. Everybody was having fun feeding chickadees. I remember that I got to touch an owl's leg. I noticed the talons on it might be sharper than a knife. And there, it was the first time I've seen a bald eagle. And a turkey vulture.

Our First Field Trip: Teeny, Tiny Little Owls by Hunter

When we went to the Wild Bird Care Centre, we saw these cute, little owls that crashed into windows. One got released and one's got a beak infection, so he's got to stay. They were stuck in little crates. I don't know why. (Shauna's note: they were in incubators to keep them safe and warm until they get better.)

We saw this massive bald eagle, it was missing a leg. We also saw a chicken, a red one. And, Patti said it laid them an egg a day. They use that egg to feed other birds.

The owls ate chicken hearts and dead mice.

We also saw seagulls that ate Frech Fries. There was one seagull in an incubator because it fell into a vat of oil at East Side Mario's.

I think it's an amazing place and we are lucky that it exists.

Our First Field Trip: Working On (and In!) Our Forts - by Hunter

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we went to some random trail on the Greenbelt. And we made forts!
