A Paramedic Met a Degu When Nils Fainted

Last week, we had two paramedics in our classroom. We'll post more about the story later (unless the student involved wants to leave the story as a comment and I'll add to this post!). They'd never heard of degus and thought we made them up.

One of them was so interested in the boys that he had a little snuggle with him!

After they helped in our classroom, they were given Project Thank you cards and have already started to spread them!

When Nils Fainted - by Nils
First I went to hold a Degu then it bit me and I started bleeding so went to the sink and started to wash my finger and then I started to feel a little dizzy and after about half a minute I was lying on the floor and Shauna woke me up and got me a pillow to lie on. Then the paramedics came and checked me out they got project thank-you cards and one of them held a Degu then I went to my family doctor and said I looked good. Then I went home and had a little rest.

Now, it's 5 days later, and Nils feels totally normal! Thank goodness!

The class stayed very calm and collected even though it was a stressful situation. We were mindful and made sure that, despite our amygdalas firing off, we stayed mindful and used our pre-frontal cortexes to deal with the issue calmly.

HUGE Project Thank You News!

As you know, your teacher is wacky! One of the reasons I am so wacky is because I love comedy, and one of my favourite comedic actors is the one and only Jim Carrey. This past weekend, Jim Carrey was making an appearance in Toronto, only a four hour drive away, to read his new picture book, "How Roland Rolls".
After a late night/early morning drive to Toronto, and many, many hours in line, I got to meet Jim! Of course, I was thinking of my wonderful Rainbow Egg Heads and planned ahead, printing out a Project Thank You card for him.
Here I am, getting my copy of the book signed and explaining to Jim about Project Thank You.
He wanted to know more about you and what grades you are in.
Here he is with the Project Thank You card which he promised to keep passing on!
And...I got to make funny faces with the funniest faced man in showbiz!

Here's Matt with Jim. Don't they look alike?

Very Exciting Project Thank-You News

As many of you know, I got to go to Ontario's capital city, Toronto, this weekend. Matt and Jeff were having their CD release party there! Also, it was Matt's birthday weekend and we were really lucky that his favourite band, The Dave Matthews Band was playing.
One of the highlights of every Dave Matthews concert is seeing Boyd Tinsley, the violinist, play. He is one of the five original members of DMB.
This was Matt's twenty-first time seeing DMB, and I think it was my fifteenth! He has loved the band since he was thirteen and I became a fan when I met Matt!

They are an aazing band to see live, and you've never seen anyone play a violin with such joy and energy as Boyd.

After the show, we had the very special opportunity to actually MEET Boyd, one of Matt's heroes. We found out he was doing a showing of a film he made for his fans (who he calls Narnia Love) and we headed from the concert to the hotel where the film screening was being held. On the way over, we spotted Boyd's bus and saw him sitting there, right in the front seat!

Matt was so excited, we were the very first people there when the bus door opened!
I brought along a Project Thank-You card that weekend, because I knew I'd run into someone in Toronto to thank.
I didn't know I'd get to thank one of the musicians in one of the biggest bands in the world! Because I was about to meet Boyd and he'd given me (and Matt!) so much great entertainment over the years, I thought I'd thank him!
I stepped onto Boyd's bus, thanked him for the great shows, and gave him the card. He gave me a HUGE smile and thanked me for the card.

Later in the night, after we watched the movie, there were about ten of us left. We had veggie dogs with Boyd, got a tour of his bus and I chatted with him a little more. I told him about you guys and Project Thank-You. He gave me an awesome hug and promised to pass on two cards! I wonder who will get them!

All weekend, I was buzzing with excitement, I could hardly wait to tell you!

Bal and Rachel - Canada World Youth - by Kaleigh

Hello peoples,

Bal and Rachel work with Canada World Youth and Gabby and Gabby's mom took them in. So, when they came into our class they told us about the Canada World Youth and I liked it because they were from different countries and they did so many different things. But sometimes I couldn't understand Rachel because Rachel was talking not so loud. She comes from Kenya, she speaks four languages: English, German, Swahili another native Kenyan language, I forget the name. Bal lives in Vancouver. My mom's dad (aka my grandpa) comes from Vancouver too. Bal is good at cooking chapati, which is from India. Once Gabi's mom came from a spa, and they got home at around 10 and there was a whole kitchen of people that Bal and Rachel invited, it was funny.

I liked meeting someone from Vancouver and Africa. Bal is from India originallly but she was born in Canada, her background is Indian. And we gave them Project Thank-You cards. We hope that it spreads all around the world and they bring it to Kenya. They are going to Kenya today, but they are stopping in London today!
