Kate's Photos

Kate Settle came by the classroom in December to take some photos to go with this article. Usually I can't stand photos of myself, but Kate worked her magic and even I like these photos!

This was pretty cool - for a while, we were the profile pic for the Kitchissippi Times Twitter account! I had to capture a screenshot!

Photos From Living Musuem

Kate Settle, our amazing Artist-in-Residence, took some great shots of the Living Museum last week. Check them out!

If you haven't seen them yet, check out the tweets from the Living Museum with the hashtag #churlivmus.

Photography with Kate - Formal Portraits

Kate came in this week to work with us on our photography project. She taught us about formal portraits.

We practiced framing photos.

We looked at some photos Kate had taken and tried to recreate the way she would have set up the photo.
The students then scattered around the school in pairs to take formal portraits of one another. I stayed in the classroom with a few groups.
Kate set up a studio in the classroom.

Erika posed her model!

Kate helped Erika find some interesting angles.

Fiona and Gabby tried to find great light.
 Gabby got the giggles.

More Photography with Kate

We had our third session with Kate Settle, our Artist in Residence this week. Students continue to learn how the cameras work and have now learned how to do macro and wide angle shots, use light and plan out their composition (and select the best settings on their cameras to make great photos). In this session, each student had to take six portraits of his or her partner. The portraits had to be taken in the same location, but each shot had to be different. We looked at some examples and then got down to work!

Thomas and Miguel try out all the different settings on the camera.

I tried taking some silhouettes.

It's great to watch the students planning out their photos.

Even though it wasn't a particularly sunny day, we still found some great places to take photos, and realized that we could take cool reflection photos.

I am SO looking forward to seeing the students' work! I will let you know as soon as Kate has put the photos online for you to see!
