Tomorrow is Autism Awareness Day!

Today we talked about what Autism is in order to prepare for Autism Awareness Day.

Tomorrow, to show empathy and understanding about Autism, we are asking all members of our school community to wear blue.

This first video is one of my former AWESOME students:

Watch these videos and experience what some artists have said Autism feels like.

Look at these beautiful photos a father has taken of his Autistic son in order to try to get inside his mind.

    1. I think an awareness-raiser might be more effective. What would we fundraise for?

  6. It makes me feel bad for the autistic people because we focus on one sound that is coming at us but for autistic people try to but they hear many sounds coming at them at once so i feel like i should do something to help them.

  9. I don't think I could cope with that much noise at once.I got a headache from the simulation videos.I feel bad for them,it must be super hard to read quietly or do anything quiet with all the noise.

  12. I read a book about this kid called Jake. He has Autism and he got in College at 9 or 10 for Math and Science. I think that you can't call a Autistic kid dumb 'cause Autism has nothing to do with that. I think people have to know more about Autism.

  13. I wonder if that is one of the cases where someone with autism has a lot of talent in one subject but not quite as much as an average person's talent in another subject.

  14. That is really sad, now I understand it more. I never knew that they hear all those sounds! It's kind of amazing that they can hear so well but it's also unfortunate that they hear all those sounds at the same time, it must be so hard to focus.

  18. Now I understand... it would be so hard to focus on one noise... I feel so bad for all the autistic kids. It would be soooo hard. I don't think I would be able to cope with that. People need to realize how hard it would be.

  22. autism is not always the happiest thing but, people with autism can be pretty awesome just because they have autism does not mean that they can't become great successors the can accomplish everything we can they are awesome!-ellis

  23. The last video made me feel sad that I can't do anything to help, but the first video made me feel happy because although you may have autism, that doesn't stop you from following your dream.

  27. for the first video it was awesome! because her voice was amazing!
and she should perform somewhere live! like a studio or a talent
show somewhere! it was so amazing! and even though she is autistic
i didn't even realize! she was great! and it was so emotional to watch!
for the second video it was interesting and sad at the same time! because it was
interesting to see how some people feel! and it isn't a shame at all to be like that
and the last video was just like that second video but at the end it was so sad because there was a video that said that there was a mom who hated her autistic daughter

  28. This was awesome Rainbow Eggheads! Have you ever wanted to be inside someones head? I know when I work with children with Autism, I always want to know what they are thinking. Sometimes we treat people with Autism differently because we think they do not understand, but maybe they know exactly what is going on, but they have difficultly explaining it or expressing it. Something to think about.
