Get Ready to Stand Up for Girls

In Canada, boys and girls are mostly given the same opportunities. It doesn't matter if you are a boy or a girl; you are allowed to go to school, to learn to read and write (this is called being "literate"), you look forward to growing up, having a job, and maybe having a family one day.

However, not all places in the world are like this. In fact, there are many places where girls are not given the same chances as boys. For many reasons, there are more than 523 000 000 girls and women around the world who cannot read and write!

(Try to read that big number out loud - 523 000 000.)

On 10-11-12 (What is that date?), the first EVER International Day of the Girl, our class will be joining Stand Up for Girls. We will literally stand up for the rights of girls around the world. We will try to do as many activities in class as possible standing. We will even take a photo of us doing that and post it on our blog.

Do you think that every child, regardless of gender, deserves a right to a quality education? I do.

By learning to read and write, all girls in the world can protect themselves agains poverty, poor health outcomes and lifelong struggles. Literacy is a cruicial skill.

Read the information above and watch the videos posted and post a comment below telling me WHY you think some girls DON'T get to go to school in other parts of the world.

    2. Pat, your selfish thinking about yourself, really. Girls did NOT get to do anything fun,
like had to rub COW DUNG all over the classroom, while the boys got to go and play soccer in the field. And your just thinking about how Gamers and Boys are awesome when your SUPPOSED to be thinking about the girls in the video, well, that's just selfish.

  24. Because some people in different countries are sexist and feel that girls don't have the right to learn and get a good education. I think it's unfair that girls don't have the right to learn. That's it. I'm done.
    -by Madi

  25. well although its relly unfair, some girls have to stay home and do chores almost like slaves.and some dont have anofe money to afored school.and in some contrys they dont let them and that is really unfair and weird.

  26. I think that people who, wherever they are, I don't know where they are, think that sending their boys to school will give them more money than sending their girls to school, which will just waste their money.
