Comm Cups

 In Room 209, we've started using "Comm Cups", we use these to communicate our comprehension levels with the teachers in the room. When everything is going well on our individual work, we show our green cups. When things are going OK, but we might need help soon, we show our yellow cups. When we're totally stuck and need help right away, we show our red cups. Then the teacher knows to come over right away. This helps everyone in the room to focus more quietly and independently.

 We use the Comm Cups at different times in the day and students have started to get them out by themselves in order to help show their comprehension. So far, they've been a really helpful tool when we work on Math activities, and Language activities like Text Busting.

Skype with Miss Robin's Class - Big News!

We have been working with Miss Robin's class in Palo Alto, California, comparing how our lives are impacted by geography. A parent in Miss Robin's class works for Skype and thinks that what we have been doing is so interesting that we have been invited to join in a promotional video for Skype! We will be featured Skyping with Miss Robin's class on April 17th!

We were so excited about the news, that we celebrated in an "uproarious" way, by having our very own impromptu "Harlem Shake"!

Fire Safety Dogs!

  I signed us up for something really cool and then I got an email back. We have an opportunity to meet Dayna, Tango and Siren on Skype on Friday, February 22nd at 11:30 a.m.!

 Here is Dayna's message below....

The Fire Safety Dogs and I are excited to Skype with your class! We LOVE to Skype with schools in Canada especially! 

Our goal is to help reduce fire-related deaths and injuries and we are thankful to our sponsors, First Alert and State Farm for supporting this program. With their support, we are able to bring this program at no cost to your class. 

My name is Dayna and I am a volunteer firefighter and certified fire safety educator. My dogs and I have been Skyping for over three years and have loved every minute of it! Our program is educationally sound and based on the latest fire safety research for young children and has been credited with helping save the lives of seven children and two adults who were involved in actual fire-related situations.

On occasion, we have teachers asking for our mailing address in which to send notes or drawings from the children to the Fire Safety Dogs after the program. The dogs LOVE getting mail and will share drawings on their live streamed fire safety show, Sparkles’ Safety Spot.
